Anna Wintour Promises Curvy Models

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Health & Beauty, Models, News

Lara Stone on Vogue UK's January cover Always one to be on top of the latest fashion movements, Anna Wintour has (finally) vowed to use curvier models in Vogue.

The legendary magazine editor has promised to include larger beauties in upcoming issues of the US fashion bible after the success of their January 2010 cover shot image of 25-year-old model , which she hopes will encourage other publishers to avoid skeletal models.

has always been supportive of healthy models and will continue to be so in the future. And I hope that Lara’s success as a model, even though her image does not fit into the existing norm, will inspire the industry to rethink its current preferences.”

The busty beauty - who has a UK size 8 figure - recently admitted she wishes she wasn’t the only curvaceous model: “I’m different because I am fat. It would be nice if I wasn’t the only person with t*ts and an a**e. If I could have the discipline to be super-skinny I would be. I think of dieting, then I eat pizza. I’m a woman, and every woman wants to be thinner - unfortunately.”

A UK size 8 figure is not fat at all !!! That is an equivalent to a size small. I think you wanted to say size 10, because to the fashion that is “fat”. I am a size 6/8 (depending on the cut) and I model. I get the “you are so skinny what to you eat?” speech all the time.

This is wonderful and all, but I think we’re forgetting that Vogue doesn’t really feature models on their covers anymore. In addition, Lara’s statement “I’m different because I am fat. It would be nice if I wasn’t the only person with t*ts and an a**e. If I could have the discipline to be super-skinny I would be.” negates any sort of position she might have as a “plus size role model”. A size 8 isn’t even plus. Let’s stop celebrating Vogue for putting Lara on the cover; instead, let’s praise Vogue for putting a fashion model on at all.
